Aquileia
Aquileia offers a rich historical and archaeological heritage to be discovered just 50km from Lignano Sabbiadoro. The city was founded in 181 BC as a Roman colony and quickly became one of the most important cities of the Empire.
The most important points of interest in the city are:
- The Roman Forum: the beating heart of the ancient Roman city, with the remains of the basilica, imperial palace and forum
- The River Port: the commercial port of Aquileia, with the remains of warehouses, docks and canals
- The CAL Fund: an archaeological area with the remains of a Roman villa and craft complex.
- The Roman burial ground: a large cemetery area with tombs from different periods.
- The Great Baths: a thermal complex from the Roman period.
